The Aerospace Students and Residents Organisation (AMSRO) gathers all of the applications, reviews them and then we forward our top three choices for each scholarship to AsMA headquarters. As I can't attach documents to the ISU mailing list please email me for the application forms, or if you are already an AsMA member you can also find them in the members section of the AsMA website. For all Scholarships, the applicant needs to be a student or resident member of the Aerospace Medical Association AsMA www.asma.org . Student or resident membership costs 122 US dollars, and has a huge range of benefits and is absolutely essential if you are interested professionally in the field of aviation or space medicine. The link for online membership is http://www.asma.org/membership/member_types.php The scholarships are: $1000 AsMA Travel Scholarship: Sponsored by AsMA with a January 31st, 2007 deadline. The IAC is organized by the International Astronautical Federation, or IAF, the International Academy of Astronautics, and the International Institute of Space Law. The IAC is the largest space-related conference in the world and selects an average of 1000 scientific papers every year. The upcoming IAC will be held Sept. 24-28, 2007, in Hyderabad, India. NASA's participation in this event is an on-going effort to continue to connect NASA with the international astronautical and space community. This "Call for Abstracts" is a precursor to a final paper, which may be presented at the 58th IAC. Student authors are invited to submit an abstract regarding an original, unpublished paper that has not been submitted in any other forum. A NASA technical review panel will select abstracts to be considered by the IAF. This opportunity is for graduate students majoring in fields related to the IAF research topics. Students may submit technical (oral) presentations and/or posters. Students may submit abstracts that are co-authored with their Principal Investigators; however, the student must be the "lead author," and only the student will present at the IAC. Students must be available to travel to the conference to represent NASA and their universities. Students must be U.S. citizens, attending a U.S. university, who plan to enter a career in space science or aeronautics. Many students and professors are currently involved in NASA related research that could be considered for this submission. Students submitting abstracts are strongly encouraged to seek advice from professors who are conducting NASA research and/or from NASA scientists and engineers. Abstracts must be related to the Vision for Space Exploration and fit into one of the following categories: Category A: Science and Exploration -- Systems sustaining space missions, including life, microgravity, space exploration and Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence, or SETI. Category B: Applications and Operations -- On-going and future operational applications, including earth observation, disaster reduction, communication, space station, small satellites and space debris. Category C: Technology -- Common technologies to space systems, including astrodynamics, structures, power and propulsion. Category D: Infrastructure -- Systems sustaining space missions, including space system, transportation, future systems and safety. Category E: Space and Safety -- Interaction of space with society, including education, policy and economics, history, and law. To be considered for NASA sponsorship, the full text of the abstract in English must be submitted to NASA electronically in the format prescribed by the IAF as early as possible, but not later than 4 p.m. EST on Feb. 1, 2007. Applicants desiring NASA sponsorship must be sure to submit their abstracts to both the IAF and to NASA. -- Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides Yuri's Night, Executive Director 1445 S St. NW #2 Washington DC 20009 202 986-6075 o | 626 429-6603 c loretta@yurisnight.net | www.yurisnight.net -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It's the day before IAC to take advantage of other SEDS members being in the region. I want to mention this now because there is funding courtesy of SEDS alumni available to one representative of each national SEDS branch to go to the event, but you'll need to supplement it with other scholarships such as this NASA opportunity and its 1 February deadline. Info is posted at http://earth.seds.org, but you should join the email list at http://www.seds.org/mailman/listinfo/seds-earth to participate and receive updates. In general, if you want to interact with SEDS members around the world, you should join this list. For the last two months, I have been advising a group of students from a variety of continents in the preliminary work of a CubeSat called SEDSAT-2; see SEDSWiki, http://wiki.seds.org, for more information. On Wednesday they received comments on their Mission Feasibility Study, a survey of the concepts required to build the satellite. Now we are looking for students to join the design team. Yes, you. All positions are open: program manager, subsystem leaders, and subsystem team members. It doesn't matter where you are, all of our communications are done online. It doesn't matter if you have satellite experience. We do, however, recommend that subsystem leaders have access to facilities to manufacture their components. Applications are available on SEDSWiki: http://wiki.seds.org/index.php/SEDSAT-2. We will close the applications on 25 February. Extra special thanks -- a big shoulder shrug -- to Ed for his extensive comments. Seriously. Build a satellite with us. You don't need anyone's permission to do it. It will be fun.
